Panama: Electricity Companies Fined

Three generating companies and three distribution companies will have to pay $250,000 each as part of the sanction imposed by the National Public Services Authority.

From a statement issued by the National Public Services Authority:

The National Authority of Public Services (ASEP) decided to sanction three generating companies, three distribution companies, Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica and the Centro Nacional de Despacho for non-compliance with current electricity regulations, resulting from the national blackout in Puerto Gago, Coclé province, on February 25, 2013.

In accordance with Resolution No. 11009 of March 6, 2017, the ASEP resolved to fine these companies a total amount of 2 million 250 thousand balboas, divided into 250 thousand balboas for each company and 500 thousand balboas for the Centro Nacional de Despacho (CND).

The National Authority of Public Services (ASEP) has imposed a fine of one million dollars on the Electricity Distribution Company Metro Oeste, S.A.

Panama to Award Electricity Distribution Concession

The Panamanian State has bought Bocas Fruit Company’s electrical assets for $4 million, to award a concession contract.

Juan Manuel Urriola, Energy Secretary, explained that once the assets have been purchased, they will proceed to release them under administrative concession so that they can be managed privately to supply electricity to the village communities of Changuinola and Almirante.
