The second round of the negotiations for the signing of Partial Scope Agreement ended with important developments.

Lestrella.com.pa reports: "The agreement includes significant progress regarding market access, regulations for commercial services, customs procedures and rules of origin, a chapter on trade cooperation, etc.

Regarding market access, Panama managed to get 100% preference for products such as pork, paper and corrugated carton boxes, processed chicken and derivatives, beef remains, flowers, toilet paper, vertical freezers, ..."

Panama and Cuba Extend Reach of Commercial Agreement

November 2014

With the modifications negotiated for Partial Scope Agreement Panama will obtain new preferences for 73 tariff lines and improvements in 31 lines, related to agricultural and industrial products.

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Panama (ICIM):

Panama - Cuba Trade Agreement Comes into Effect

October 2009

Pork and Sea products are some of the products that Panama will export to Cuba tariff-free.

The announcement was made by the Commerce and Industries Ministry of Panama (MICI).

Local newspaper Laestrella.com.pa lists some other products included in the agreement: "sausages, toilet paper, paper boxes, cartons, juice ,..., freezers, trucks, roof profiles and notebooks".

The second round of negotiations is scheduled for January 21 - 23

According to laestrella.com.pa, "During the previous round, held last October, Cuba conceded to Panama 79% in preferential tariffs for actual exports.

Cuba is seeking access for live animals."

The Ministry of Trade and Industry has announced that it intends to initiate the negotiating process before the end of this year.

Cuba holds position 27 of the main destinations for Panamanian Exports, with at least 3 million dollars, according to the figures from the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic.
