$918 million in Approved Building Permits

In the first seven months of the year the value of approved construction projects amounted to $918 million, 45.3% more than in the same period last year.

This July alone, the total approved exceeded $151 million, representing a 140% increase compared to July 2011.

Of the total number of permits approved $705 million worth was for projects to be developed in the capital, being mostly non-residential.

Applications to Build in Panama Increase

The Department of Planning and Permits received 407 applications in January and February, 52 more than during the same period last year.

Of the 407 applications received, 121 were approved in January and 99 in February.

Panamá América reported on its website: "The statistics of the municipal Department of Planning and Permits detailed that there were 121 approvals in January and 99 that were completed in February.

Construction in Panama slows down

In the last few months there has been a drop in the value of construction permits, although the year's accumulated total is still positive.

The value of the construction permits approved in September 2008 totaled $118.5 million, $63.9 million or 35% less than for the same month the previous year, according to the Main Monthly Economic Indicators from the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic.

Construction grew 54.5% in June in Panama

The value of construction, repair, and extension permits approved during the first half of the year was at $829.8 million.

Most of the investments are located in the district of Panama, with $675 million (58.5% more than the year before); this is followed by Arraijan, which, with $44 million, had the biggest increase in the country (161.3%).
