Panama: $95 million for Sanitation

Using a loan from the Andean Development Corporation a wastewater collection system and treatment plant will be built in the districts of Burunga and Arraijan Cabecera.

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance in Panama:

A bill regarding a $95 million loan agreement was approved by the National Economic Council (CENA) enabling the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) to sign with the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) a loan for the construction of a sewage collection system and treatment plant in the districts of Burunga and Arraijan Cabecera.

The project, which aims to improve living conditions and the social environment of 83,000 residents in the aforementioned districts of the province of Panama Oeste, includes the design and construction of sub collecters and a main line, sewer lines, residential connections and inter domicile connections, which will have capacity to transport future flows until 2050.

In addition a wastewater treatment  system will be implemented through the design and construction of the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) with a capacity of 620 liters per second in the first stage, as well as pumping stations and drive lines.

 The plan is part of a comprehensive sanitation program in the province of Panama West, specifically in the districts of Arraiján and La Chorrera and in this case, encompasses sanitation of the districts of Arraijan Cabecera and Baru.

The Board of the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) has approved a loan to the Republic of Panama for 95 million dollars for the construction, operation and maintenance of integrated collectors, sewage networks and pumping stations for a wastewater treatment system in the communities of Burunga and Arraiján Cabecera.

Panama: $100 million for Modernization of Sewers

With a loan from the Development Bank of Latin America, the Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers will make improvements to the sanitation system in four provinces.

The resources will be used to improve drinking water and basic sanitation in the provinces of Bocas del Toro, Chiriquí, Veraguas and Panama and the National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers will execute the project.
