CONSUMER HABITS OF FRESH PRODUCTS WORLDWIDE
• Developed markets are experiencing a growing demand for organic products, due to the fact that there is more disposable income there, and an awareness of the benefits of these products.In the markets where this niche has been consolidated, it is interesting that price differences compared to conventional products are non-existent or smaller.Meanwhile in markets where the niche is developing, prices are higher.
• Consumers are increasingly concerned about the safety of food and are looking for products that comply with quality and social responsibility certifications. • Despite the fact that the number of establishments in the modern channel (supermarkets, hypermarkets) is growing in developed markets, traditional channels (greengrocers, small traders) are preferred because of their variety and freshness.
The market for fresh fruits and vegetables in this European country amounts to $25 billion, mostly in fruits, while processed vegetables amount to just over $4 billion.

Mangosteen, pitahaya, guanabana, passion fruit, uchuva, ipecacuana, pejibaye and carambola are some of the agricultural products with potential to export to markets such as Europe and America.

Between January and October 2014 the South American country exported 18% more fresh fruits to the European Union, as a result of the tariff benefits arising from the agreement.

The tariff benefits coming from the Free Trade Agreement between Colombia and the European Union (EU) are promoting new exports, said ProColombia.
The increase in sales of fruits and vegetables in the South American country could open up opportunities for a significant proportion of the exportable supply from Central America.

An analysis by the Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (PASO), at the Ministry of Agriculture of Chile noted that foods such as fruits, vegetables and dairy have entered on into the daily diet of Chileans in the past 10 years, while others such as sugar, rice and pulses have experienced a decline.
