A delegation of U.S. companies, composed by coffee toasting and commercialization companies, is visiting the country.

The trade mission, representing 7 American companies, has visited coffee plantations in Jinotega and Matagalpa, to the north of Managua.

Newspaper La Prensa published comments by Pedro Haslam, executive president of the Rural Development Institute: "... these U.S. businessmen are very interested in developing commercial relations with Nicaraguan growers".

Nicaragua: $400 Base Price in Cup of Excellence

Nicaragua's coffee farmers are preparing for the coffee auction scheduled for June 26, with expectations of earning more than $1,800 per quintal.

The online auction known as the ‘Cup of Excellence’ will be held in Nicaragua on June 26 and the base price of $400 has been set by the franchise Alliance for Coffee Excellence, said the president of the Specialty Coffee Association of Nicaragua, ACEN, Juan Carlos Munguia.

At an online auction of Nicaraguan specialty coffees, the highest price was paid for a lot from plantation “Norlan Daniel Matute”.

It was bought be Japanese company Maruyama Coffee for Mikataku Group. The variety had won the 2010 Excellence Cup with a score of 94.14.

“Julio Peralta, president of the Association of Specialty Coffees of Nicaragua, commented that even if they failed to top the record price set in 2007 ($47.06 per pound), the average price paid to the 27 growers was good, around $8 per pound”, reported Laprensa.com.ni.

Honduran Coffee Participates in U.S. Fair

The Annual Fair of the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), the most important in its field, will take place between April 15 and 18.

This event will be hosted by the city of Anaheim, California, and expects the participation of 8.000 coffee professionals.

Honduran coffee will be tasted by international buyers at a large stand, competing directly with the world’s best, stated Mario Ordóñez, from the Honduran Coffee Institute (Ihcafé).

Korea Shopping for Nicaraguan Coffee

A delegation of buyers is touring the Jinotega Region, in the country's north, looking to buy premium coffee.

They will stay in the country until January 23rd, and are negotiating directly with coffee growers, through the 28 cooperatives that receive aid from AECID (Spanish Agency for International Cooperation in Development).
