Nicaragua requested reciprocality for Salvadoran cheese

With the application of new non-tariff delays for Nicaraguan cheese on the part of Salvadoran authorities, Nicaraguan producers are demanded that the Government respond with reciprocal measures.

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAG-FOR), Ariel Bucardo, confirmed the restrictions that are being applied by El Salvador to trucks entering the country with Nicaraguan cheese cause delays in delivering the product and many time the product is lost. He said that this obviously has economic consequences for local producers.

He added that up to 17 truck with Nicaraguan cheese have been delayed for days while they are inspected to see if they will be able to continue their journey or returned.

Costa Rica Will Reduce Tariffs On Beans

The Costa Rican Government is working in a special regulation to reduce in 30% the tariff to red imported bean.

Central American Bean production has been affected by strong rains (Nicaragua, for example, is reporting 40% of its production lost). The tariff reduction will be in effect until next December, and will facilitate to import the product from outside Central America.
