Nicaragua prepares for annual coffee conference

The country was chosen as the "Portrait Country" for next Annual Conference of the Association of Special Coffee of the Americas, which will be held in April in Atlanta.

Laprensa.com.ni reports: "Roberto Bendana, president of the Cup of Excellence, confirmed that Nicaragua was chosen this year to be the Portrait Country, with which they will be able to utilize special promotion spaces that will be reserved during throughout the event, which is held annually and brings together representatives from producer and consumer countries, trading and roasting companies, local and international organizations, all linked to the coffee sector."

Nicaragua: Excellence Cup Enters Final Stretch

50 specialty coffees will compete to be awarded as the country’s best, at the final stage of the Excellence Cup contest.

They were selected by a jury of national experts on April 23, from 119 samples.

“90% of the varieties which qualified for the final originate in the ‘Nueva Segovia’ region”, reported Laprensa.com.ni. “This week, an international jury will select the country’s best coffee”.

Guatemalan Coffee Gets Second Place at International Competition

At the annual competition of the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), Guatemalan plantation "Puerta Verde" got the second place.

The winner was Colombian plantation "Buenavista", with 90.5 points. It was followed by "Puerta Verde" with 89.625 points and "La Isabela", located in La Paz, Honduras, with 89.313 points.

Nicaragua to Host Cup of Excellence

Thirty-two judges from different countries will come together until May 22 in Nicaragua to select the best coffee at the Cup of Excellence competition.

The final stage will take place in Estelí, where participating coffees will be valued in the search for potential buyers, and the best coffee in Nicaragua will be selected.

Guatemalan Coffee Receives Award

In the competition organized by Roasters Guild, el Injerto and San Diego Buena Vista estates were awarded.

This competition takes place within the Specialty Coffee Association of America contest, which ended on April 19.

Prensalibre.com reported statements by Blanca Castro, marketing coordinator for the National Coffee Association (Anacafé): "Every year, Roasters Guild gives an award to the best coffee from a roasting industry point of view."
