Nicaragua: Geothermal Power Plant to Add 36 MW to System

At the end of the month the San Jacinto-Tizate geothermal station will generate 36 megawatts which will be added to the national grid.

The head of the ministry of Energy and Mines, Emilio Rappaccioli said at a news conference that the incorporation of the 36 MW of renewable energy, will save nearly $ 40 million annually on fuel consumption.

An article in ACN-EFE states, "he (the Minister) added that the second phase of the San Jacinto-Tizate geothermal plant, to be concluded in late 2012 or early 2013, will generate another 36 megawatts, making a total of 72 new megawatts, bringing the energy savings up to 80 million dollars a year.

‘This geothermal project has a positive impact on the economy, generation costs, energy prices for consumers and the environment’, he stressed."
