Nicaragua and El Salvador to join Customs Union

The governments of Nicaragua and El Salvador have started the observation process, a step in the process to join the Customs Union which is already in effect between Guatemala and Honduras.

Tuesday, July 25, 2017

The process starts with the incorporation of representatives from the Nicaraguan and Salvadoran governments as observers in the meetings between Guatemala and Honduras.

Elnuevodiario.com.ni reports that "...According to José Adán Aguerri, the president of the Higher Council of Private Enterprise (Cosep), authorities from El Salvador will start the process of integration into the customs union between July 25 and 27 in Guatemala.

"..."We are very attentive to the results of this process, which is still a process that has adjustments being made to it, but our interest is that Nicaragua, like El Salvador, also be part of that integration process," said the president of Cosep.  'After these meetings, which will be held on 25, 26 and 27, (we hope) that the observers that the Government (of Nicaragua) is going to send will be people who will later be able to support the private sector´s position to join the integration process as soon as possible," Aguerri said.
