Nicaragua: More Egg Production

Using the processing plant that Grupo Industrial El Granjero is building in Masaya, $14 million worth whole eggs, whites and yolks, are planned to be exported in the first year of operation.

The 3,000-square-meter plant, located in the Zona Franca Industrial Zone El Granjero, has the capacity to produce more than 400 tons during its first year of operation, according statements made to Elnuevodiario.com.ni by company representatives.

Elnuevodiario.com.ni reports that "...Prohuevo expects exporting more than US $14 million in its first year of operation with the production and sale of egg products, which will start production in July with a fully automated plant dedicated to the transformation of eggs into their different presentations of whole eggs, egg whites and yolks."

"... The plant will have the capacity to produce more than 400 tons of egg products per month in its first year and will offer more than 20 varieties of products in liquid and powder forms.  The project is now 85% complete and represents an investment of Nicaraguan capital over US $8.5 million in its first phase."

Poultry farmers this year projected they will produce 657 million units, 11% more than last year.

The Nicaraguan Egg Commission in conjunction with the National Association of Poultry Farmers and Food Producers (ANAP) has projected an 11% increase in production of egg units this 2016, thanks to the fact that in November 2015 the sector had grown by 9.2 % and it reached 18.1 million boxes in the first eleven months of the year, reported Elnuevodiario.com.ni.

Nicaragua: Prospects for the Poultry Industry

In the first half the year slaughter went up by 6% compared to the same period in 2014, and the industry expects to end 2015 with an annual increase of 8%.

In the case of egg production the increase during the first half of the year compared to the same period of 2014 was 11%, according to figures from the Central Bank of Nicaragua.
