Nicaragua Looks South for Markets

Nicaraguan businesses are looking to open new markets in South America.

In a bid to build even closer ties with countries with Ecuador, Peru and Chile, a group of company representatives is to visit these countries in May.

Nicaragua already exports to these nations and is seeking to increase trade with them on the back of increasing demand in their markets.

An article by Cristhian Marenco for El Nuevo Diario comments that, "the main objective of this trade mission is to understand demand in these countries, the opportunities for business and to present an offer for Nicaraguan exports. The president of Nicaragua's chamber of industry, Mario Amador, stated that the first country the team will visit will be Chile due to the recent signing of a free trade agreement.

Mexican investors who are to visit Honduras in June, will be looking for business in the agribusiness, education and furniture sectors.

The volume of potential investments would not be less than $20 million.

This was confirmed by Daniel Aguilar, regional president in San Pedro Sula at the National Association of Industrialists (ANDI), who explained that the visit is being managed through the newly created Mexican Honduran Chamber of Commerce.

Nicaraguan Exports to Venezuela Increase 600%

Nicaraguan businessmen are requesting the negotiation of a FTA, in order to sell their products directly.

Exports from Nicaragua to Venezuela jumped from $11.5 million in 2008 to $90 million in 2009. They are channeled through company Albanisa, and the leading category is livestock.
