Laprensa.com.ni reports that "...While in 2005 the country spent US $6.76 billion on imports of makeup and skin care products, last year the figure reached US $23 million, according to the Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN). "

"... Meanwhile the Digital Cartography and Buildings Census at the BCN shows that there are 3,901 salons in 79 municipalities, of the 90 which are recorded in that document (excluding the two regions on the Caribbean Coast). Duvivier Castillo, president of the Association of Beauty Followers (Ascub) believes that growth in beauty centers is widespread in all departments of the country, because of growing demand. 'Ten years ago there were 2,500 stylists in Managua and now there are 5,000, they have grown a hundredfold'."
