Nicaragua: $66 Million for Military Hospital

Work is expected to begin in 2011 once the international construction tender process is completed.

The new 41,000 m2 hospital will be built using funding from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), the head of the Nicaraguan Army announced.

It will be located on the site of the old El Retiro Hospital and is expected to be operational by 2014.

Laprensa.com.ni comments that, "the hospital will have two floors, a construction area of more than 41k square meters and there will also be two three-story towers".

The two-story hospital with 300 beds will be ready in three years and will be financed by Dutch investors and the Nicaraguan government via a BCIE loan.

The Ministry of Health announced that the construction of the hospital in the Managua District III will be undertaken as part of the cooperation agreement recently signed between the Nicaraguan government and the Netherlands.

The congress of Nicaragua approved an agreement with CABEI to build a military hospital.

It will feature over 41.000 square meters of constructed space in a central two-storey building plus two three-storey towers, holding 474 beds.

According to EFE, the $66.5 million are split as follows: $4 million will be donated by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), while the remaining will be disbursed as a 20-year loan with a grace period of three years, at an unspecified interest rate.

Nicaragua Builds Hospital in Estelí

The new regional Hospital of Estelí will include an emergency room, consultation and hospitalization.

Doctor Ignacio Rosales, director of the Health Clinic of Estelí, explained they expect the first phase of the hospital to be ready in three months. This comprises 30 doctor offices and a pharmacy.

Nicaragua: $62.4 Million to be Invested in Hospital

Part of the investment will be made with a $50 million loan from the BCIE, and the remaining funds will be supplied by the Nicaraguan government.

The new military hospital school, "Dr. Alejandro Dávila Bolaños," will be built on a site measuring 72,336 square meters, where the El Retiro Hospital was previously located. The El Retiro Hospital was a medical center that was destroyed by an earthquake on December 23, 1972.
