New thermo-electric power plant in Panama

After$100 million in investment and 12 months of construction, operations at the new Cativa thermo-electric power plant began.

The new power plant will provide 10% of electric energy generation to the country in 2009, along with the Bahia Las Minas plant.

Both thermo-electric plants belong to the DFG Suez Energy Central America consortium and together generate 30% of Panama's electricity.

Panama: Coal Plant to be Ready in June

GDF Suez Energy’s $140 million coal reconversion energy plant would start operating by the end of June.

The project will generate energy using coal imported from Colombia. The raw material will be unloaded at the storage facilities of “Cemento Panamá”, in the port of Bahía las Minas, close to the plant.

GDF Suez Builds Hydro Plant in Panama

A subsidiary of GDF Suez will start the construction of a 115 MW run-of-the river hydro project following an auction which took place on 9 Sep. 2008.

As a result of this auction, 100 MW have been sold to distribution companies for a period of 10 years, between 2013 and 2022. GDF SUEZ will provide 6,000 GWh for the length of this period.

Gator Partners has obtained a provisional license to build in Bahia Las Minas, Panama, a power plant with a capacity of 400MW, based on ethane.

Gator Partners is planning to build and operate a power plant called "Térmica Energía Corotú" which will operate using ethane gas with a combined cycle plant with a capacity of 400MW.
