New World Bank representative for Honduras

The World Bank has designated Geoffrey Bergen as its new representative for Honduras, said sources from the organization.

World Bank vice-president for Latin America and the Caribbean, Pamela Cox, officiated at the Bergen's appointment and said that "with this appointment we are reiterating our commitment to the Government of Honduras to continue on with the National Strategic Plan and to strengthen our relationship with the Government.

World Bank Could Resume Aid to Honduras

Juan José Daboub, director of the World Bank, visited the country, making it the first official action of the financial entity.

William Chong, Honduras, finance minister, told journalists at a press conference that Daboub plans to meet with president Porfirio Lobo, the council of ministers and the economic cabinet.

El Salvador Receives an Additional $250 million

These World Bank funds will be used in social spending, education, health care, job generation, public structure and in the public sector.

The multilateral organism made a commitment to grant El Salvador an additional $250 million for the June 2009 - June 2010 fiscal period.

$150 Million for Panama

July 2009

The World Bank funds were granted for the current fiscal year, from July 30 to June 2010.

"Panama is an important partner. We reiterate our support to its government's agenda and our commitment to analyze cooperation opportunities in the future" said Pamela Cox, World Bank Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean, who met with Panamanian president Ricardo Martinelli and his Economy and Finance Minister, Alberto Vallarino.

World Bank to offer new credits to El Salvador

June 2008

The World Bank will present a new offer of credit instruments to El Salvador following the cancellation of about 100 million dollars of loan debentures that failed to get approval in the Legislative Assembly.

The World Bank's managing director, Juan José Daboub of El Salvador, announced that the offer will be made to the government and other politicians and officials next Sunday.
