New Bidding Process for Metro Bus in Panama

The Government will again invites bid the financial management services for $ 15 million.

The first bid held on October 8th was declared vacant.

This system will consist of an alternate payment mechanism to the exchange system, to be implemented and operated by an independent Financial Manager of Transportation.

The State will sign the contract with the Financial Manager and ensure it will receive remuneration according to the service, passengers carried and other terms and conditions of the Concession Agreement.

The system will include the figure of Fund Collection and Trust Agent, by which the proceeds will be managed through a Trust Agreement with a bank which will provide the collector or the Financial Manager, 90 days after contract is signed.

The government will announce on December 15th, the company responsible for managing the transportation system.

The announcement of the company in charge of collecting payments from users of the transportation system, is a few weeks late.

"The bid process to choose a financial manager was suspended in October when it was already at an advanced stage" reported Prensa.com.

Guatemala: New Transportation System Ready to Start

"Transurbano", a new urban transportation system, will begin in March, serving 200.000 users in Avenida Petapa, Guatemala City.

In February, users will be able to request pre-paid cards (dubbed 'SIGA') at CACs (Customer Service Centers). These cards will be free of charge, and users will recharge them at any of these centers.

Panama Launches "Metro Bus" System

The first contract for "Metro Bus", a new transportation system, will be awarded on March 29th, 2010.

This project will renew the current bus fleet with air conditioned, high capacity vehicles, but will commence with existing 'Red Devil' buses ("Diablos Rojos").
