New Attempt to Get a Port in Corozal

The Panama Canal Authority insists on the great commercial potential a port in Corozal Oeste would have, and announced that it will be re-evaluating alternatives to develop it.

Thursday, May 4, 2017

From a statement issued by the Canal Authority:

The Board of Directors of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has authorized the Canal Administration to carry out the corresponding evaluations and to present new terms and conditions to allow for the development and operation of a container port in Corozal Oeste.

In declaring the tender process for the Corozal port concession closed without proposals, the Board considered that it is important to continue analysis of future options for the project.

Canal administrator Jorge Luis Quijano confirmed that "the ACP will continue to evaluate the Corozal Oeste port project as part of the Canal's commercial development strategy because it has a very great potential and because it can contribute to complying with its constitutional responsibility to operate the route cost-effectively for the benefit of the country."
