More Cruise Tourism for Guatemala

Building on the momentum that the industry gained from the Central American Cruise Convention 2013 the best tourist sites in the country are being promoted.

According to the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT), thanks to the implementation of strategic plans and new campaigns, the results from cruise tourism have been satisfactory. 628,550 tourists were recorded last year and 668,403 in the first quarter of 2013.

"It was noted that one of the most significant routes through which the most income from tourism was reported is by sea, which had 33,277 travelers from January to April this year compared to 18,330 in the same period in 2012," noted an article of Elsalvador.com.

During 2012 foreign income was $365.8 million, an increase of 8.3%, while so far this year $396 million in revenue has been reported.

Confirmations for the arrival of tourists ships in the 2012-2013 season have led to expectations of 50% growth in arrivals.
