More Brazilian Rice in Panama

Explained by an increase in purchases made from companies in Brazil, during the first quarter of the year Panama imported $19 million worth of rice, 207% more than in the same period in 2017.

Variation of imports  
Between the first quarter of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the import value of rice in Panama practically tripled, rising from $6 million to $19 million. 

For the periods in question, the value imported from Brazil grew considerably, increasing from $300,000 to $7 million.

Origin of imports 
From January to March 2018, 39% of the value imported from Panama came from the USA, 36% from Brazil, 25% from Guyana and 1% from Thailand. 

During the first quarter of the last seven years, Brazil is the origin market from which imports have grown the most, as in 2012 Panama bought $700,000 worth from there and in 2018 this amount went up to $7 million.

In the first six months of the year, rice imports in Central America reached $163 million, an increase of 56% over the same period in 2017.
