Cargo Movement Still Rising

Between January and November 2019, the national port system continued to record positive numbers, as 85 thousand metric tons of cargo were mobilized, a figure 11% higher than that reported for the same period in 2018.

The General Comptroller of the Republic reported that only last November there was a 10% year-on-year increase in cargo movement, rising from 7.5 million metric tons in the eleventh month of 2018 to 8.2 million metric tons in the same period in 2019.

Regarding accumulated cargo movement, between January to November 2018 and the same period in 2019, it increased from 76.8 million to 85.2 million, equivalent to an 11% increase.

For the periods in question the movement of containers also registered a slight increase, in this case it was 5%, from 6.4 million TEUs to 6.7 million TEUs.

Cargo Movement Keeps Rising

The latest report of the General Comptroller of the Republic details that only last May reported a 12% year-on-year increase in cargo movement, rising from 7 million metric tons in the fifth month of 2018 to 7.9 million metric tons in the same period of 2019.

Maritime Cargo Movement Keeps Falling

During the first nine months of the year, cargo movement in Panama totaled 61.8 million metric tons, 5% less than the figure reported for the same period in 2017.

The latest data from the General Comptroller detail that only last September was reported a year-on-year fall of 8% in cargo movement, declining from 7.6 million metric tons in the ninth month of 2017 to 7 million metric tons in the same period of 2018.
