They are dedicated to the production of goods and services, with exports totaling $500 million a year, and are located in the metropolitan area, but also in La Chorrera, Arraiján and Cocle.

According to Ricardo Muñoz, president of the Association of Panamanian Free Zones, the intention of the union is to promote its expansion across the country.

"... Panama has logistics infrastructure in the process of integration, there are ports, railways, Tocumen airport and there is the issue of interconnecting of all these components with free zones for the purposes of attracting foreign investment ".

The official believes that the expansion of the Canal will increase business and investment opportunities in the country, but the legal system must be updated and the training of human resources improved. "The opportunity for Panama is for high-level businesses and we need education to be transformed and for efforts to be made in technical training," he said.
