Romania to send trade mission to Panama

Romania is sending a trade mission to Panama on May 24 with the aim of boosting bilateral commerce, tourism and economic cooperation.

Members of the mission include manufacturers of industrial and farming machinery, textiles, consumer goods and electrical equipment.

Costa Rica wants to increase trade relations with Guatemala through the recently-formed Guatemala-Costa Rica Chamber of Commerce.

Luis Bonilla of Alimentos Kerns will be the new organization's president.
Other corporate members include Productos Alimenticios Imperial, Certeza Consulting, Cristal Vitro S.A., Dos Pinos, Conexpress, GrainPro and the newspaper La Moneda.

Region Loses $900 million a Year to Organized Crime

Criminal activities in Central America cause a loss of $900 million for regional trade, said the Federation of the Chambers of Commerce of Central America.

In El Salvador, $600 million was lost due to armed robberies, and in Honduras, the figure is $150 million a year, reported merchants from the isthmus .

For the second consecutive year in Panama the Latin American conference of the Council of the Americas was held, this year subtitled "Panama: Where the World Meets."
