Medical Tourism Conference in October

On October 6th and 7th, Costa Rican Medical Care will hold a medical tourism conference in San José, Costa Rica.

Costa Rican Medical Care, a division of the HSA Clearing Corp., works with three private hospitals in Costa Rica in offering their services to North American clients.

The president of the HSA Clearing Corp., Tim Morales, said: “The purpose of this seminar is for insurance company executives, employee benefit administrators, medical insurance agents, third party administrators, and other interested parties to directly interact with the hospitals and doctors that work with Costa Rican Medical Care. Once people see the quality of medical services that Costa Rica offers, they will be happy to work with us and to recommend our services to their clients.”

In Central America, Panama is just beginning to participate with less than 1% of that market, where Costa Rica is one of the largest players at 16%.

About 100,000 tourists visit the country annually for medical purposes, paying between $4,000 and $6,000 per procedure.

The measure enacted by the executive branch will mean that the Tourism and Foreign Trade Ministries will work on bringing more investment and patients to the country, and that the Health Ministry will promote international accreditation of the medical facilities and ensure service quality.
