Laboratory for Control of Medicines in El Salvador

The new installations will carry out physical, chemical and microbiological analysis in order to ensure the safety of each product.

From a press release issued by the Government of El Salvador:

The Government of the Republic today inaugurated a modern laboratory for quality control of medicines,, considered by experts as one of the most modern in Central America and which will ensure the efficacy and safety of all medicines sold in the country.

At these installations, measuring about 400 square meters and in which more than $736,000 has initially been invested, they will be able to carry out physical, chemical and microbiological analysis to ensure that each product is fit for consumption by the population.

Arguing that there is no proper verification of cleaning products in the country, the consumer union examines the chemical composition and labelling of packaging.

The verification performed by the Consumers Association of Costa Rica, consists of reviewing the chemical composition of 200 samples of products such as disinfectants and soap for washing dishes, which were sent to different microbiology and chemical laboratories.

Equipment donated by the European Union will enable the laboratory to be updated in order to provide metrology services adhering to international standards.


The donation to the National Metrology Center (Cenamo) includes laboratory equipment for use with fine and coarse masses, volume and flow, temperature measurement, pressure, force, power, density and viscosity, dimensional, longitudinal, time and frequency, and reference materials.

EU Demands Quality Control Law for El Salvador

The European Union and Salvadoran government have joined forces to set up a National Quality System.

The aim is to implement a system that guarantees the quality of products manufactured in El Salvador through a law to be approved by the Legislative Assembly.

This system was developed by the Vice Ministry of Cooperation in development and the Economy Minister and will have a budget of 12.1 million euros provided by the EU over four years.
