Elnuevodiario.com.ni reports that "... The construction will take place throughout the month of October and to do this the EPN will be using the material extracted from dredging the bay of Bluefields, with the goal of completing the islands in November, according to official information. According to the authorities, 'The goal is to extract 581.442 cubic meters of sediment, and with it, form nine artificial islands to boost local tourism.'"
"... Each island will measure on average 80 meters in diameter, detailed the EPN, which did not disclose the facilities to be offered on each island for tourists. "
The National Port Company has announced it will invest $5 million in the modernization of the tourist port of San Jorge, on Lake Nicaragua.
From a statement issued by the National Port Authority:

With the presence of President Ricardo Martinelli the Ocean Reef Islands project was launched.
Ingenieros Civiles Asociados (ICA), contractor and builder Grupo Los Pueblos developer of Punta Pacific Islands, will invest approximately $ 300 million.
Martinelli considered this project visionary as the investment is purely Panamanian capital (approximately $ 300 million) and allows to project confidence to other investors, domestic and foreign, to continue to position Panama as a nation with first world infrastructure.
Two artificial islands will be located between the grounds of the former Marcos A. Gelabert Airport and the ATLAPA Convention Center.
The project, which was awarded to the ICA-Panama company, is part of a contract signed with the State in 1996 to "design, build, maintain and operate the expressway, which also included the transfer of 29.5 acres of the then Marcos Gelabert de Paitilla Airport," according to an Article in Pa-digital.com.
