German Investors Interested in Panama

Don Limón, a German food company, seeks to buy banana, pineapple, melon and watermelon from Panama.

Andrés Shindler, owner of the company, toured various plantations, looking for producers able to export to Europe. This company sells around $28 million per year, and buys from Mexico, Costa Rica and Brazil.

Javier Calvo, Panamanian ambassador in Germany, added that several German energy companies are interested in investing in Panama's energy market, especially in wind and solar power.

Costa Rica to Export Organic Melon and Watermelon

The first foreign sale of the fruits was carried out by the company Melones de la Península, which sent 1,500 kilos to Europe by air and 10,000 kilos by sea.

After the organization Kiwa BCS Limitada granted the certification of organic product, in a first stage Melones de la Península exported 1,500 kilos during two weeks, by air, between both varieties (melon-yellow honey dew and watermelon-quetzali), as well as approximately 10 thousand kilos by sea in the same period.

Taking advantage of the Trade Promotion Agreement (TPA) between Panama and the U.S., growers in this country expect better results during 2013, after considerable crop losses during 2012 due to heavy rainfall.

XX Congress of Melon and Watermelon Producers and Exporters

Panama is home to the XX International Congress of Producers and Exporters of Melon and Watermelons in Central America which brings together companies and exporters.

Organized by the Group of Non-Traditional Exporters of Panama (Gantrap) it will end on Saturday August 18 with business negotiation rounds between exporters, producers, importers and service providers.
