Construction Started on New Hospital in Honduras

With an investment of $36.6 million work has begun on the new Southern Regional hospital in Choluteca, Honduras.

The total project cost is $36.6 million, of which $33 million is being financed by the Export-Import Bank of Korea, while the national counterpart is $3.6 million.

The construction area will be 11,300 square meters and will contain 200 beds, and involves the purchase and installation of medical equipment and furniture. It will also include a mobile hospital system made up of five outpatient clinics.

A press release from the Ministry of Finance of Honduras states that “President, Porfirio Lobo Sosa and the Ambassador of South Korea, Chong-on Won, laid the foundation stone of the Southern Regional Hospital in Choluteca”

The statement goes on to say that “As part of the National Health Plan (2010-2014) this project involves the improvement of the hospital network through the construction of medical centers across the country, a decision that took shape during the official visit of President Porfirio Lobo Sosa to South Korea, in February 2011.”

An agreement with the Honduran government includes financing technical studies and managing the search for construction investors from a pool of South Korean candidates.

The International Cooperation Agency of Korea (KOICA) and the National Autonomous Service of Aqueducts and Sewers (SANAA) have signed an agreement endorsed by President Porfirio Lobo, through which technical studies will be conducted for the construction of the Guacerique II dam which will supply drinking water to the capital, Tegucigalpa. The technical work, which costs about a million dollars, will be funded by Korea.

$30 Million for New Hospital in Honduras

With financing from South Korea, a new hospital center is to be built in the city of Choluteca.

A 12 hectare site will be used to construct the new 150-bed hospital that will improve services available to the south of the country.

The countries agreed to cooperate in the development of special management areas in Honduras.

"Charter Cities" are development-oriented, and the objective pursued by President Porfirio Lobo is to encourage domestic and foreign investment.

"During their meeting, Wolf and Lee agreed to cooperate in the development of such plans for special areas in Honduras and seek ways to collaborate in trade, investment, education, health and infrastructure development in the Central American country," Terra.com informs.

Honduras: $120 Million for Biodiesel Generation

Investors from the United States expressed their intention of investing in a project to generate biodiesel from pine nut.

They met with President Porfirio Lobo Sosa, and detailed the characteristics of the project, which includes financing, technical assistance, and buying the raw material from local growers.
