Road Infrastructure: $1.4 Billion in Investments

During 2018, 88 environmental impact studies were presented for projects to rehabilitate streets, build roads and bridges in Central American countries.

The interactive platform "Construction in Central America", compiled by the Trade Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData, includes an up to date list of public and private construction projects for which environmental impact studies (EIA) were submitted to the respective institutions of each country.

Panama is the country with the largest investment, with nearly $1.319 million in construction projects dedicated to the adaptation of roads and the construction of road interchanges, corresponding to 56 environmental impact studies submitted between January and December 2018.

In Guatemala, 18 EIAs were presented, which together add up to about $70 million in investment. Some projects for the construction of vehicular bridges, overpasses and a new highway in the department of Quiché stand out.

Among the documents presented in Costa Rica are 13 EIAs for the construction of streets and bridges, which add up to an investment of nearly $8 million. In the case of Honduras and El Salvador, during 2018 projects were processed that together require an investment of approximately $11 million.

CentralAmericaData has information on the construction projects to be developed in Central America, with details such as estimated investment, times and phases of the project, supplies and equipment that will be required during and after construction, water treatment, and parking structure, among other things.
