Inflation in Costa Rica slows down

Since July 2008 inflation has grown but at a slower rate, according to results published by the National Institute of Statistics and Census.

Patricia Leiton write in an article published on "For a family this means that they will continue to experience increased prices, but at least the increase are, on average, less than those experienced in the first part of 2008.

In the last three months (November, December, January) the price index rose 1.19%."

Costa Rica Still Has Zero Inflation

June 2016

Despite the slight monthly increase of 0.19% in the consumer price index in May, inflation in the last twelve months was -0.43%.

The National Institute of Statistics reported that in May 2016, of the 315 goods and services included in the consumer basket, 42% increased in price, 46% decreased and 12% remained the same.

Costa Rica Ends Year with 5.82% Inflation

January 2011

According to the report from the National Statistics and Census Institute consumer price index rose 5.82% in 2010.

General level of Consumer Price Index in December was 143.086, which represents a 0.74% variation compared with the November index (with a value of 142.032).

Costa Rica: Negative Inflation Persists

November 2015

In October, the consumer price index recorded a decrease of 0.28%, placing annual inflation at -0.86% and inflation accumulated so far this year at -0.98%.

The groups with the greatest contribution to the CPI in October 2015 were transportation and rental housing and services, as reported by the National Institute of Statistics and Census. [GRAFICA caption = "Click to interact with graphics"]

Costa Rica: First Quarter Inflation Closes at 1.37%

April 2011

According to information from the National Institute of Statistics and Census, the change in prices from January to March was 1.37%.

The products groups that contributed most to the change are Education and Transport.

The inflation accumulated over the last 12 months (April 2010 to March 2011) is 4.58% and is the lowest seen over this period in the last 10 years.
