Inflation in El Salvador Reaches 5.24%

The monthly variation of November was 0.15% for an accumulated inflation of 5.24%.

According to the Department of Statistics and Censuses:

The November CPI increased slightly from 0.14% driven upward by changes in the areas of food, clothing and transportation, which increased 0.31%, 0.39% and 0.67% respectively.

Within these divisions the main variations reporting upward movements were fruits such as bananas (6.85%) and watermelon (17.49%) and some vegetables like green chile (32.64%), chayote (17.46%) and tomatoes (11.47%), caused by reduced supply of such products on the market. In the case of clothing the main variations were reported on items such as formal trousers for men (1.56%) and blouses and sleeveless tops for women (2.37%). in the case of transport, air travel increased by 18.12% due to the approach of the vacation holiday season.

In June 2013, the rates of the monthly and interannual variations of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) were 0.4% and 5.3%, respectively, for its part, average inflation for the year reached 5.2 % and the cumulative rate stood at 3.1%.
