New Attempt to Regulate Airbnb

In Costa Rica, the Executive Branch urges deputies to move forward with the discussion of the project to regulate non-traditional hosting and its intermediation through digital platforms.

The project suggests that non-traditional hosting companies be required to register with the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), pay taxes and be registered with the General Directorate of Direct Taxation.

From the CCH statement:

The regulation of digital hosting platforms that establish taxes and state surveillance could be a reality if the deputies propose it, since it was convened by the Executive Branch in Extraordinary Sessions.

The decision to call it caused satisfaction in the Costa Rican Chamber of Hotels (CCH) because there is a legal gap in this business, which is also seriously hitting the formal hosting establishments because they are at a clear operating disadvantage.
