Honduras: Melons and Watermelons Access Mexico

The Ministry of Agriculture announced that the country is now certified to export melons to the Mexican market.

The vice minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG), Juan Angel Artica, added that now there are new opportunities for producers in Honduras.

"The Mexican market will help because there is a surplus of about 400 metric tons to which some companies had not found a destination for,” reports Elheraldo.hn.

The country will export about $100 million in melon and $40 million in watermelon to the United States, Europe and Canada, between December 2008 and May 2009.

According to Hondudiario.com, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of Honduras, Hector Hernandez, said that the country has surmounted the recommendations of the United States Food and Drug Administration in regards to melon, being able to export to Canada and the United States once again."
