Central American Trade Figures - II Quarter of 2016

October 2016

In the second quarter, the region exported $14,440 million, of which 31% went to the intra-regional market and 69% to other markets.

From the Trade Monitor of the Economic Secretariat for Central American Integration (SIECA):

Central America, October 6, 2016. The dynamics of regional trade continue in a negative phase in terms of aggregate growth and internal results in many countries, however, when compared with that seen in the previous quarter a slowdown can be seen in retail trade.  

Nicaraguan Exports Down 6.9%

During the first nine months of 2013, exports totaled $1,9268 billion, while in the same period of 2012 they were $2.0703 billion.

The information was published by the Center for Export Procedures (CETREX), who reported that the volume of foreign sales suffered a decline of 2.1% between January and September, as last year 1,337,991.6 tons was reported and in the same period of 2012 there were 1,366,962.1 tons.

Exports from the region registered a FOB value of U.S. $2.478 billion, an increase of 5.7% compared to the $2.344 billion exported during the same month last year.

The categories of products that contributed to the performance of exports, classified by Chapter of the Central American Tariff System - SAC - which accounted for 59.9% (U.S. $1484.6 billion) of total exports, were:

Nicaragua: $2.6 billion in Exports Projected

This year the Center for Exports (Cetrex) projects an amount of exports ranging between $2.6 and $2.7 billion.

In the first month, January, alone exports totaled $224 million, 17.4% higher than in the same period in 2011.

"Jorge Molina, executive director of Cetrex noted that this will be a 'good year', as there is projected growth in the sale of sugar and beans, two products that provide high-volume exports.
