The Minister of Tourism, Nelly Jerez, noted that the environmental impact studies prepared in conjunction with the Institute of Anthropology still await in June the final decision of UNESCO (the area is considered world heritage).

"The secretary of tourism said he expects construction of the airport in a 'record time' of 12 to 18 months," reports Elheraldo.hn.

Possible Tender for Palmerola Airport

If no agreement is reached with InterAirports, the concession for the new Honduran airport at Palmerola could be put out to tender.

So stated President Porfirio Lobo, who asked the Commission for the Promotion of Public-Private Partnerships (COALIANZA) to not let the project "go cold”.
