Honduras: Coffee exports $ 600 Million

For the 2009-2010 coffee harvest, coffee exports reached a new record.

The previous record had been in 2007-2008, with a total harvest of $ 594 million.

Free Press website reports that the Honduran Coffee Institute (IHCAFE) did not anticipate the 2010-2011 harvest, which began on October 1st."

Coffee is currently the country´s main export.

Record Honduran Coffee Exports

December 2011

At the end of the 2010-2011 harvest, the country exported 5.2 million bags of 48 kilos, 13% more than in the previous 2009-2010 harvest.

As to the value of exports of the crop, they totaled $1,200 million versus $610 million from the previous harvest.

According to the Honduran Coffee Institute (Ihcafe) "the cultivation of the aromatic involved about 100,000 producers.

Honduran Coffee Exports Up 35%

August 2012

To date exports have totaled 6.6 million bags (weighing 46 kilos), 35% more than in the same period of the previous harvest when exports amounted to 4.9 million bags.

The figures are even more encouraging considering that the total exports so far have exceeded the goal for this year of 5.4 million bags, according to information as at August 7, 2012, from the Honduran Coffee Institute (Ihcafe) .

Exports of coffee from Honduras have reached a record high of at least $ 568 million.

Between October 1st last year, when the 2007-2008 harvest began, and last Tuesday 4.3 million quintals (a quintal is the equivalent of 100 lbs or 60 kilograms each).

The 2010-2011 harvest volume makes the country the sixth largest coffee producer, and the first among Central American countries.

A rise of 25% in exports in the previous 2010-2011 harvest, has placed the country among the top ten exporters of the grain, according to preliminary figures from the International Coffee Organization (ICO).
