Honduras: Coffee Exports Produce $500 Million

Despite the financial crisis, the coffee sector is estimating more than $500 million in foreign exchange this year

The chairman of the Center of Coffee Cooperatives in Honduras, Dagoberto Suazo, noted that coffee consumption has increased almost 3% in the US and Japan, among other countries.

La Tribuna published Suazo’s statements on its website: "A bag of coffee is priced at $130 in New York, which gives producers and those who have grain ready for export a good perspective for the next harvest. For 2010, it is expected that sending of the aromatic to the international market will generate some $600 million."

Honduras has record export of coffee

September 2008

Honduras exported a record amount of coffee, 4.5 million sack (46 kilograms each), during the harvest that started on October 1, 2007.

"We are closing with more than 4.5 million sacks. This is almost 200 thousand sacks more than our projections and earnings are going to be over US$600 million," the president of the Central Coffee Cooperatives (CCC), Dagoberto Suazo, stated.

Record Honduran Coffee Exports

December 2011

At the end of the 2010-2011 harvest, the country exported 5.2 million bags of 48 kilos, 13% more than in the previous 2009-2010 harvest.

As to the value of exports of the crop, they totaled $1,200 million versus $610 million from the previous harvest.

According to the Honduran Coffee Institute (Ihcafe) "the cultivation of the aromatic involved about 100,000 producers.

Honduran Coffee Exports Up 35%

August 2012

To date exports have totaled 6.6 million bags (weighing 46 kilos), 35% more than in the same period of the previous harvest when exports amounted to 4.9 million bags.

The figures are even more encouraging considering that the total exports so far have exceeded the goal for this year of 5.4 million bags, according to information as at August 7, 2012, from the Honduran Coffee Institute (Ihcafe) .

Coffee export in Latin America grew 2.6%

The 9 coffee exporting countries of the Arabian coffee exported close to 27 million sacks of coffee at 60 kilos each.

The National Coffee Association of Guatemala (Anacafe), reported that the coffee exporting countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and the Dominican Republic) registered an increase orf 2.6% in exports during the current harvest (Oct.
