Honduras Cancels Rural Roads Bidding

The $24 million public bidding process, intended to improve 80 km of rural roads, was canceled due to lack of funding.

The works comprised improving roads in 25 municipalities in different departments of the country.

The Millenium Challenge Account in Honduras (MCA) informed "interested bidders that by order of MCA United States the funds earmarked for bidding process LPI/PC/No02 -2009 have been cancelled. Accordingly, MCA Honduras is cancelling the bidding process", reported Elheraldo.hn.

$35 million Approved for Rural Road Infrastructure

Nicaragua's National Assembly has approved a loan to be used to finance a Project for the Improvement of Rural Road Infrastructure.

The plenary of the National Assembly approved the February 23rd, a loan agreement between the Government of Nicaragua and the International Development Association (IDA) at the World Bank, amounting to 35 million dollars in order to finance a rural road infrastructure improvement project.

Tender for Improvements to Guatemalan Rural Roads

The tender is to improve terraced rural roads in the departments of Izabal, El Progreso and Santa Rosa.

According to the tender specifications the work covers some 122 kms, distributed as 26.41 km in the department of Santa Rosa, 72.72 km in Izabal and 22.87 km in El Progreso.

The Rural Road Improvement Project Section CA2 (The Coast)-Hato de los Reyes, Zacatecoluca, in the department of La Paz, comprises the paving 8.13 kilometers of road designated as departmental road and classified as rural road, having two lanes of three meters wide each, one in each direction.

With the loan, the country expects to fund projects protecting vulnerable social groups.

"One of the projects comprises building rural roads in 46 municipalities, for families to connect with markets and services", reported Epa. "The loan will mature in 23.5 years, with an 8-year grace period".
