Honduras: Economic Activity Up 4%

Explained by the behavior of the Financial Intermediation, Insurance and Pension Funds, and the Manufacturing Industry, during January the Monthly Index of Economic Activity increased by 3.8% with respect to the same period in 2019.

Most of the productive activities showed positive results in the first month of 2020, standing out for their contribution to the global indicator: Financial Intermediation, Insurance and Pension Funds; Manufacturing Industry; Post and Telecoms; and Commerce, informed the Central Bank of Honduras.

The official report states that "... Financial Intermediation, Insurance and Pension Funds registered a 7.9% positive variation (6.1% in 2019), associated to the favorable performance of Financial Intermediation (8.5%), as a result of income from commissions and interest on the loan portfolio and credit card, as well as by the income received on investments.

The Manufacturing Industry showed recovery by growing 4.0% (-2.6% in January 2019), energized by the positive contribution of activities: Food, Beverage and Tobacco Manufacturing; Textiles and Apparel Products; Machinery and Equipment Manufacturing; Basic Iron Casting Industry; and Non-Metallic Minerals. However, the Chemical Products and Substances Industry; the Paper Products and Printing Industries; and the Manufacture of Finished Metal Products, showed a negative contribution.

Mainly explained by the economic activity reported in the financial and manufacturing sectors, during March the IMAE in Honduras grew 3.2% with respect to the same month in 2017.

From the report of the Central Bank of Honduras:



During the first three months of 2019, the original IMAE series shows a 2.9% growth (3.0% in 2018); meanwhile, the trend series cycle2/ reached a 3.2% year-on-year rate (3.5% in March 2018).



Financial Sector Dynamizes Economic Activity

Mainly explained by the economic activity reported in the financial sector, during October, the IMAE registered a 3.7% variation with respect to the same month of 2017.

The Central Bank of Honduras reported that according to the IMAE forecast, national production in terms of volume in October 2018 showed a 3.7% increase (5.4% in 2017).

November 2018

Because of the economic activity reported in the financial sector and the manufacturing industry, during September the IMAE registered a variation of 4% with respect to the same month in 2017.

The original IMAE series, accumulated up to September 2018, shows that the national production of goods and services (in volume terms) increased 3.7% (5.4% in 2017), outcome observed in the last three months.

Honduras: Economic Activity Slows Down

September 2018

From July of this year, the Monthly Index of Economic Activity recorded a year-on-year variation of 3.7%, which is far from the 5.1% reported in the same month in 2017.

The report by the Central Bank of Honduras states that "... Because of its contribution to the Monthly Index of global Economic Activity, the group that stands out is Financial Intermediation, Insurance and Pension Funds having contributed the most, followed by: the Manufacturing Industry; Commerce; Mail and Telecommunications; Agriculture, forestry and fishing; Electricity and Water; Transportation and Storage; Building; and, Hotels and Restaurants."
