The round of negotiations ended without reaching an agreement on sensitive issues such as pork, clothing, textiles and sugar.

The head of the Honduran delegation, Melvin Redondo, told Tribuna.hn, "concluded the second meeting and almost finished with most issues, we are just in issues of sensitive nature."

He added that it is necessary to continue consultations, mainly with the meat industry, seeking an agreement which would satisfy the interests of exporters in Honduras.

Honduras Would Sign FTA with Canada

The Honduran government expects to conclude the negotiations in the next round, on February 14th.

Melvin Redondo, Honduran negotiator, said that they hope to resolve the market access issues, primarily regarding pork, textiles and clothing.

"Large companies are interested in the textile sector, and mining and agricultural investments are subject to the outcome of the negotiation" added Redondo.

Guatemala is coordinating schedules in order to resume free trade negotiations between Canada and the CA-4 countries.

Raúl Trejo, vice-minister for Guatemalan trade, indicated that coordination meetings have already been held in El Salvador to agree a schedule for the twelfth round of negotiations.

The meeting will be next Friday and will be presided by the negotiators of the countries of the CA-4 (Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Honduras) and Canada.
