Holiday Inn Express to Open in Honduras

After a $15 million investment, the hotel will be inaugurated in San Pedro Sula in September.

The 110-room project aims to lead the recovery for Central American business tourism, reported Héctor Santos, from "Desarrollos Monumentales", owner of the franchise.

Santos told Laprensahn.com that business tourism was "... the most affected by the global financial recession and the national political crisis".

Holiday Inn Express Opens in Honduras

The 110-room hotel is located in San Pedro Sula, the industrial capital.

The hotel will generate 280 direct and indirect jobs.

Carlos Cácers, Holiday's marketing director, told Laprensahn.com "...they have 30 large suites ... it stands out from other hotels because it includes simply smart breakfast in all its rates, ... gymnasium, pool, conference rooms and parking for 120 vehicles".

Two New Holiday Inns in Central America Announced

The hotel chain InterContinental Hotels Group announced the signing of two contracts for Holiday Inn Express hotels in Managua and Tegucigalpa respectively.

In total the two properties represent an increase of 220 rooms for the Holiday Inn brand family in Latin America and the Caribbean, where there are currently 18 Holiday Inn Express hotels and 24 Holiday Inn hotels.

Holiday Inn invests $1.5 million in El Salvador

They built administrative offices, a conference center, a business center and a lounge bar and remodeled several areas.

The Holiday Inn has an occupancy rate of around 72% of its rooms, "which is very good, because we are a business hotel, and that percentage indicates that there are vacancies only on the weekends and that during the rest of the week we are almost full," commented the Hotel's general manager, Marcos Orantes.

Grupo Poma Invests $1.2 Million in Honduras

The group announced a $1.2 million investment in Intercontinental Hotel in Tegucigalpa.

They are also planning investments in the city of San Pedro Sula somewhen in 2010, added Salvadoran entrepreneur Fernando Poma.

"In Central America we've had difficult times, and we are going to overcome these", said the businessmen, referring to the current political crisis in Honduras and economic situation in the region.
