Guatemalan coffee sales drop

Exports fell 9.3% in the first four months of the coffee season, the National Coffee Association (Anacafe) reported.

El Periodico.com.gt published on its website that "Ester Eskenassy, a market analyst at Anacafe, reported that coffee exports for the October 2008 - January 2009 period totaled 548,936 sacks (60 kilos each), a drop of 9.3% compared to the 605,241 sacks sold in the previous period."

Coffee sales abroad in the years 2011-2012 are estimated to increase by 17%.

A 17% increase in export of the harvest which begins in August and ends in October 2012, is expected by the National Coffee Association (Anacafe).

If these estimates are met it would mean that for the first time Guatemala will export the equivalent of $1,000 million worth in bags of coffee, a figure which could be achieved partly thanks to high grain prices that currently prevail internationally.

Guatemala exports 13% less coffee

During the first three months of the 2008-2009 harvest, exports were 12.79% less than for the same period in 2007-2008.

Coffee export in Latin America grew 2.6%

The 9 coffee exporting countries of the Arabian coffee exported close to 27 million sacks of coffee at 60 kilos each.

According to the National Coffee Association (ANACAFE) exports for the month of August were at a total of 301,363 sacks (60 kilos each).

This figure represents a reduction of 48,294 sacks less than the same month last year, when exports reached 349,657 quintals.
Nonetheless, accumulated exports so far (up to August) for this coffee season which started in October 2007 grew by 4.3% in relation to the same period from the previous season.
