Guatemalan Farmers Aim for Russian Market

Agricultural companies have set their sights on Russia as the country showed interest in buying fresh vegetables.

Cooperative “Unión de 4 Pinos” is currently sending samples of its products to Russia. Manager Tulio García explained that they will execute this expansion through partner companies in the Netherlands.

From Elperiodico.com.gt: “Global economic expectations are now better than in 2009. García considers that exports of vegetable products could grow between 15% and 20% in 2010”.

Guatemala Exports More Fruits and Vegetables

In the first semester of 2018, official figures show an increase of 15% in sales abroad of fruits and 23% in those of legumes and vegetables.

Data from Banco de Guatemala indicates that "... Sales of fresh, dried or frozen fruit reached US $197.6 million from January to June, US $26.1 million more than in the same period in 2017. Pulses reported US $114.9 million, US $21.1 million more than last year."

Nicaragua Looking for New Export Markets

Salt Producer “Nicasal” Expands To the Region

Nicaragua’s only salt producer is planning its expansion to Costa Rica and Honduras.

Oscar Vargas, CEO of Nicasa, (mixed company owned by Unión Fenosa and Albanisa), explained they have invested $2.6 million in the production plant, and are now capable of producing 550 quintals per hour, with 99% purity.
