Guatemala and Mexico Expand Free Trade Zone

The countries are to authorize the entry of land freight vehicles and coaches, to up to 30km from the border.

In meetings held between Guatemalan and Mexican governments, representatives from companies in the travel and tourism sectors were also present. It is expected that the agreement will come into force with the next few days.

Veracruzanos.info reports information from the Mexican Economy Secretary saying that, "the free trade zones will be expanded, enabling companies to manage a single set of trade regulations and facilitating trade and investment in the seven participating countries (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica y Mexico)".

Restrictions lifted in Panama's Free Trade Zone

A directive issued by the Management Committee of the Colón Free Trade Zone (ZLC) says that the charges for foreign transporters of merchandise will be subject to reciprocity.

The directive allows foreign transporters to carry merchandise within the zone provided that the transporter's country of origin doesn't impose restrictions on Panamanian carriers, said the assistant general manager of the Free Trade Zone, Juan Fidel Marcías.
