Guatemala will bid out electrical transmission projects

The projects include five rings that connect the electrical lines. The projects may be awarded in aggregate or individually.

In the website elPeriodico.com.gt, it was published that "After the project is officially noticed, potential bidders will have six months to deliver their proposals and the awarding of the bid(s) is expected to be at the end of 2009."

"CNEE estimates the cost of the project to be $500 million USD and that construction could start the following year based on a model in which the construction, operation, and maintenance of the lines would be left under the management of the company."

The National Commission of electric power announced that on March 9th they will reveal the bases for the construction of the power lines.

Leonel Díaz Zeceña in an article published in Prensalibre.com writes: "The interested businesses will have until September to make their proposals, and the awarding will be by means of auction, reported Carlos Colom , President of the National Commission of Electric Power (CNEE), yesterday.

The CNEE (The National Committee for Electric Energy) is still working on the main details of the bidding for the Plan which should start in 2009.

The "Electricity Transmission System Expansion Plan, 2008-2018" includes the construction of the infrastructure which includes 1,374 kilometers of electric lines and the funds which should come from the private sector.

Right of Way Complications in Electrification

Interested in bidding for electric transmission projects in Guatemala expressed concern over rights of way for electric lines.

Complications could arise if agreements are not struck with owners of plantations through which electric lines should travel, warned several businessmen, in a second informative meeting for the project.

The National Commission of Electrical Energy (CNEE) opened the bidding process yesterday for the construction of a 1,394 kilometer power transmission network at a cost of $504 million.

Journalist Rosa María Bolaños wrote in Prensalibre.com: "Carlos Colom, president of the CNEE, opened the bidding process which established a September 29 deadline for submitting and receiving both economic and technical bids.
