Guatemala offers exploration of hydrocarbons to Ecopetrol

Guatemala offered the possibility to explore (and to extract) six areas in the country for hydrocarbons (three for gas and three for petroleum).

Officials from the National Competitiveness Program presented to Ecopetrol the potential for extracting hydrocarbons from these six areas.
The first three regions are located in the Pacific Ocean and cover 1.4 million hectares where the MEM believes methane hydrate can be found.

Oil Exploration in Panama

One of the three companies that carried out geophysical studies to determine the possible existence of oil and natural gas in Panamanian soil, has announced that it has completed its data collection process.

The company GX Technology has completed data collection on the content of the coast and sea of the Panamanian Caribbean. From now on, the National Energy Secretariat can start to put out to tender the blocks for exploration of gas or oil fields.

Oil Exploration Agreement in Nicaragua

The Nicaraguan Oil Company has signed a cooperation agreement with a Canadian company for exploration of oil and gas.

Following the agreement signed between the company EastSiberian Plc, belonging to TMX Group in Canada and the National Oil Company of Nicaragua (Petronic) the Ministry of Energy and Mines has been approached in order to start negotiations for the subsequent signing of concession contracts.

Natural Gas Field in Guatemala

The company City Petén has discovered a reservoir of high quality condensate, rich in butane and propane, in an oil well in Ocultún, Petén.

"Everything indicated that Guatemala only had heavy oil with high sulfur content. However, this discovery of natural gas is changing the energy mix in the medium term, " said Luis Ayala, director of Hydrocarbons of the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
