Mario Marroquin, executive director of the Invest state office in Guatemala, explained that even though the zone has a great potential for Guatemalan products, we should focus on the four countries with which we currently have the greatest flow of trade and investments.

These are China, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan, but mainly the first because the growth in imports has been above 330% in 5 years. The increase in sales of our products to China has been over 1100% during the same period.

Representatives of public and private sectors in Guatemala are demanding the creation of a single process for import procedures, similar to that for exports.

Siglo21.com.gt notes that since in the country the “Ventanilla Unica” (single counter), also known as (VUPE) only works for exports, the director of Exporter Services, of the Guatemalan Association of Exporters (Agexport), Fernando Herrera, said there is a need to "create an Import Counter".

Guatemala seeks FTA with South Korea

Guatemala Trade Mission to China

Guatemala Asks WTO to Mediate with Peru

A request has been made to establish a "Special Group" for the settlement of trade disputes between the two countries.

The Ministry of Economy of Guatemala, through the Permanent Mission in Geneva, has requested that the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) establish a "Special Group" to be responsible for resolving disputes between Guatemala and Peru.
