Guatemala Tenders Plan for Convention Center

The INGUAT has announced that in July it will convene an international tender for a feasibility study and master plan to build a convention center.

Tuesday, June 21, 2016

Authorities at the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism explained that among the requirements to participate in the tender, companies must have experience in the design and construction of at least ten convention centers. The first tender will be to determine the ideal location and feasibility, in addition to a design for the building.

Last year it was announced that a group of businessmen requested permission to build, through means of a concession, a 12,000 square meter convention center, estimated at $104 million.

Prensalibre.com reports that "...After having the feasibility study and master plan the President of the Republic Jimmy Morales and the Executive Agency will have to decide whether the project is carried out and what format will be used to achieve it and make the investment. "

The INGUAT "...has received recommendations from the National Agency for Public-Private Partnerships and the CABEI to define the format to be used, since the state does not have the funds to finance the construction, and a tender will be launched for this work subsequently. The study will define the appropriate place to build the center, analyzing Parque de la Industria, in Zone 9, a state owned piece of land managed by COPEREX, but they are looking for others.
