Guatemala fights fraud with new real-estate police
Guatemala has opened a special office to fight fraud in the registration of real-estate titles.

The new Directorate of Registry Security will be supported by law enforcement and judicial agencies.
The World Bank has approved an interest free loan to expand access to formal land titling, cadastre surveyance and property registration.
BID will finance a loan of $22 million for the implementation of a physical land registry system to cover protected areas in Guatemala.
El Salvador gave the control to modernize the property registry to Indra, a Spanish company.
The Costa Rican National Registry has started using a modern cadastral map for certifying property deeds which will provide greater security for people buying land.
