Guatemala to Reconstruct 477 Education Centers

With support from Germany, Spain and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), 477 schools damaged in the Agatha tropical storm will be rebuilt.

Roberto Monroy, administrative viceminister for Education, explained that with the support of the National Fund for Peace (FONAPAZ), 187 classroom roofs will be repaired and 25 walls rebuilt in schools across the country.

"We are working to restore and revamp the damaged education centers with planning expected to finish in August for construction to begin in September with those sites deemed highest priority," stated Monroy.

Infop, the National Institute for Professional Training, will build a training center in Olancho.

Its executive director, David Chávez, explained the project requires $2 million in infrastructure plus $1 million in equipment.

He added that this new center will offer the same careers offered in the rest of the country.

Guatemala: $23 million for School Infrastructure

September 2015

Using the €21 million German loan approved by Congress 21 new educational institutes will be built for diversified levels in four departments.

The loan from the German Financial Cooperation was approved only one day after the deadline for it to be voted in by Congress. The funds will be used to build 21 schools in Huehuetenango, Quiché, Alta Verapaz and Chiquimula.

Panama: $ 24 Million for Schools

October 2010

The Ministry of Education bids the design, plan and construction of two schools.

The new facilities will house the Pacora Education Center, located in the District of Panama and Centro Educativo Ancón, located in the Province of Panama.

The date for submission of proposals for both bids is Nov. 9th.

Panama: $12 Million for Educational Center

July 2010

Government to build a school in the Playa Leona community, about 30 km south-west of Panama City in district of La Chorrera.

The center will feature state-of-the-art technology and be a template for the construction of additional schools. Construction is expected to take 420 days.
